AFewBookMen Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 1, 2026
AFewBookMen (“the app”) is a reading tracker operated by oeoe.io (“the operator”). The app works without an account. Books, reading logs, and the profile are stored on the device and, when iCloud Sync is on, in the user’s own iCloud account, which the operator cannot access.
1. Data the operator receives
| Data | When | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Profile identifier: a random UUID created with the profile. It is not an Apple advertising or device identifier, and nothing identifies the device or the installation. With iCloud Sync on, the same profile and identifier are used on all of the user’s devices. | Whenever the app calls the operator’s servers (book search, AI book info, statistics). | Rate limiting, abuse prevention, and keeping one reader’s records from being counted twice. |
| Book title and author | Only when the user turns on “AI Book Info” or searches for a book. | Fetching book metadata such as page count. |
| Statistics data: birth year (used only to place the reader in an age band; statistics are produced per age band without any identifier), gender (female, male, or not specified), country, reading languages, book length, pages read, reading time, and reading speed, and book identifiers (title, author, ISBN). | Only after the user turns on “Share reading data for statistics”. | Building aggregate reading statistics and showing the Trend screen, which compares the user’s reading with groups of other readers. |
The nickname, notes, photos, and book covers never leave the device through the statistics feature. The app has no third-party advertising or analytics SDKs and does not track users across other companies’ apps or websites.
2. Consent for statistics
- Sharing is off by default. The app asks before the first upload.
- Refusing is always possible. Without consent, only the Trend screen is unavailable, because it is computed on the server from the shared data. Every other feature keeps working.
- Consent can be withdrawn at any time in Settings. Uploads stop immediately.
- Readers under 14 cannot turn on statistics sharing.
3. Retention and deletion
- Statistics data is kept until consent is withdrawn and deletion is requested, or until the profile has been inactive for 24 months.
- “Reset All Data” in Settings creates a new profile with a new identifier.
- “Delete my statistics data” in Settings removes every record stored for the profile identifier within 30 days. Aggregates that no longer relate to an individual reader may remain.
- Server logs used for security are kept for up to 90 days.
- Deleting the app does not by itself delete server data. Use the in-app delete action first, or contact the operator.
4. Sharing and processors
The operator does not sell personal data and does not share it for advertising. Data is processed by these service providers on the operator’s behalf:
| Provider | Role | Location |
|---|---|---|
| Vercel | Website (oeoe.io) | South Korea (AWS Seoul region) |
| Dedicated hosting | API servers and database | Seoul, South Korea |
| OpenAI | Book metadata lookup for “AI Book Info” (title and author only) | United States |
| Google Books API | Book search (search text only) | United States |
Data may therefore be transferred to and stored in the countries listed above. It is sent over an encrypted connection (TLS) at the time of each request. Only aggregate statistics, in groups large enough that no individual reader can be singled out, are ever shown to other users or published.
5. Your rights
Users can access, export, correct, or delete their data, and withdraw consent, using the in-app controls or by writing to the contact below. Because there is no account, the operator can only act on requests made from the app, which carries the profile identifier to find the records. Users in the EEA and UK may lodge a complaint with their data protection authority; users in Korea may contact the Personal Information Infringement Report Center (privacy.kisa.or.kr, 118). The legal basis for statistics processing is consent; for the profile identifier used in rate limiting it is the operator’s legitimate interest in keeping the service secure.
6. Children
The app does not knowingly collect statistics data from children under 14. If such data was shared, contact the operator and it will be deleted.
7. Changes
Material changes are announced in the app before they take effect. If new data types are added to the statistics feature, consent is requested again.
